Qa-9, 26 February 2021, Statement Of The Spokesperson Of The Ministry Of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Hami Aksoy In Response To A Question Regarding The Recent Decision On The Burial Of The Deceased Due To Covid-19 In Sri Lanka
The Muslim community in Sri Lanka was expecting the change in the practice of cremation of all the deceased Covid-19 patients which was launched due to Sri Lanka’s special geological conditions. Indeed, relevant Sri Lankan authorities had expressed their opinion that there is no public health necessity for this practice.
We welcome this new decision which makes it possible again the conduct of burial ceremonies for all the deceased in line with their religious beliefs.
