Based on the spirit of solidarity and deep-rooted historic ties that happily exist between the peoples and the governments of Turkey and the Arab Republic of Egypt, andupon the request of the Egyptian Government, Turkish Government decided to deploy “M/F Ankara” ferry in order to evacuate up to 2000 Egyptian citizens from Libyan city Misourata to Alexandria.
The “M/F Ankara” ferry, transporting 1025 passengers mostly Egyptians, along with other civilians of various nationalities, arrived at Alexandria Port, today, Thursday, 14 April 2011, at 13.00 hours.
Necessary arrangements were made to transfer the passengers with health conditions to receive medical treatment.
The ship was received at Alexandria port by representatives of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Alexandria, Mr. Semih Lütfü Turgut, consular staff members of other passengers’ embassies in Cairo along with Egyptian provincial authorities.
After completing the evacuation operation, in case there still are stranded Egyptians at Misurata the ship may sail back to Libya for another trip.
